The National Housing Agency was established under the Law no.152/1998 and currently carries out its activity under the authority of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration.
The NHA carries out four main housing construction programmes:
- Mortgage-Financed Dwellings
- Rental Housing Units for Young People
- Rebirth of the Romanian Village
- Social Dwellings for Roma Communities
The programme related to the construction of mortgage-financed dwellings is chronologically the first NHA programme. The NHA was the first institution to grant mortgage loans and the main promoter of the mortgage market in Romania.
The NHA has been implementing a special rental dwelling construction programme addressing the needs of young people since 2001.
The Rebirth of the Romanian Village Programme addresses the needs of teachers, doctors, urses and police officers who work in rural areas.
The Social Dwellings for Roma Communities Pilot Programme is implemented by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration through the National Housing Agency in accordance with the Government Decision no. 1237/2008.
In addition to these permanent activities, the agency has also implemented temporary programmes designed to support people affected by floods. The NHA has provided support for the reconstruction of severely damaged or destroyed dwellings and the purchase of building materials that were distributed among the flood-affected homeowners.
